PEPY Empowering Youth is a Cambodian nonprofit that connects rural Cambodian youth with the skills, opportunities, and inspirations needed to reach their potential. Originally founded in 2005 as "Protect the Earth, Protect Yourself" (also known as PEPY Ride) by Daniela Papi, Greta Arnquist, and Maryann Bylander, the organization is registered in both Cambodia and the United States and is based in Chanleas Dai, a rural district about 65 kilometers from Siem Reap. It has since evolved from an environmental-education cycling project into a focused youth-development organization.
Programs and services
PEPY's current programs include the Dream Management Program (goal-setting, mentorship, and networking for rural high schoolers, run in partnership with local teachers), a Learning Center for supplementary classes, and the flagship Scholarship for Higher Education Program. Scholarship recipients, drawn primarily from Kralanh, move to Siem Reap to pursue university studies or vocational training; PEPY covers educational fees and study supplies and provides each scholar with a bicycle, a computer, and healthcare, along with ongoing classes at the PEPY Learning Center. Applicants are evaluated on academic performance, financial need, and demonstrated commitment to education and social change.
