Description
Genealogy Stories, subtitled Krous’saa K’nyoum, is the second issue of The Stilt House, the Cambodian American Literary Arts Association's publication for Khmer stories told through short prose, poetry, photographs, visual art and recipes. The issue gathers family writing from contributors including Joan Chun, Lena Sarunn, Krystal Chuon, Peuo Tuy, Moleca Mich, Narinda Heng, Sanary Phen and Christine M. Su, with an editor's introduction that traces a father's survivor guilt and silence about Cambodia after April 17, 1975 to the questions his daughter could only ask as an adult. Publication and editions
The issue was supported by a $2,900 Lowell Cultural Council grant awarded in December 2018, and its submissions call ran through spring 2019. Print copies were offered for a suggested $10 donation at the zine's first official launch, held virtually on March 21, 2020 after the in-person event at the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association was cancelled. Christine Su edited the issue. (CALAA: News and events; CALAA: Genealogy Stories submissions call; CALAA: Virtual launch of The Stilt House Zine; CALAA: The Stilt House, Genealogy Stories)
