This Body Mystery is a poetry collection by Chath pierSath, first published in 2012. (Rain Taxi: interview with Chath pierSath; Wikipedia: Chath pierSath)
Description
This Body Mystery collects poems focused on the narratives of people living with HIV and AIDS in Cambodia during the 1990s. More than ten years in the making, the poems are portraits of everyday figures that the poet describes as concerned with how people come to accept their fate and their illness. The book pairs the poems with pierSath's paintings. (Rain Taxi: interview with Chath pierSath; Wikipedia: Chath pierSath)
Publication and editions
Abingdon Square Publishing issued the book in 2012, following pierSath's 2009 collection After, and it preceded his 2020 collection On Earth Beneath Sky. PierSath was born in Battambang Province, Cambodia, crossed the Thai border in 1979 at the end of the Khmer Rouge period, emigrated to the United States in 1981, and later returned to Cambodia for humanitarian work that included HIV and AIDS prevention education.
