Description
This anthology brings together Cambodian literary and cultural works spanning approximately fourteen centuries, including poetry, prose, essays, inscriptions, chants, songs, epics, folk tales, theater, performance pieces, and visual art. It includes translations of rare and classical texts, modern Cambodian writing, and works by Cambodian refugees and members of the diaspora. The nearly 400-page volume also features paintings from Theanly Chov’s Surviving series. (University of Hawai‘i Press)
Publication and editions
The volume was published as a MĀNOA issue in September 2022 and contains works by 33 authors, with translations by 19 translators. It includes writing that was nearly lost during the Cambodian Civil War, the Khmer Rouge regime, and its aftermath, and is described as a companion to In the Shadow of Angkor (2004).
