The United Cambodian American Network (UCAN) is a Stockton, California-based community organization dedicated to strengthening and empowering Cambodian-American communities through cultural preservation, civic engagement, and social advocacy. UCAN creates spaces where Cambodian-American stories are told, youth are inspired, and voices are heard.
Programs and services
UCAN operates and supports several distinct programs and sub-initiatives:
- The Cambodian Experience: Our Journey to America — a traveling cultural exhibit; the most recent installment, "Finding Freedom," was featured at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, California.
- Heritage Center for Cambodian Americans — a fundraising and programmatic priority focused on establishing a permanent cultural center.
- Khmer Language Arts and Culture Academy (Stockton program) — a UCAN youth program focused on Khmer language, arts, and intergenerational cultural transmission. See also the independent Tacoma-based KLACA, which shares the name but is a distinct organization.
- Khmer Anti-deportation Advocacy Group (KhAAG-Stockton) — supports families impacted by deportation. See also the independent Washington-based KhAAG-Washington, which is a distinct organization.
- PAPAYA (Pan-Asian Pacific Association of Young Adults) — youth cultural awareness and Cambodian representation.
- Morodok Khmer Performing Arts (MKPA) — a dance troupe promoting Cambodian arts through intergenerational cultural performance.
