Khmer classical dancer and teacher who carried the royal dance repertoire through the refugee camps and into diaspora schools.

Voan Savay is a Khmer classical dancer who joined the Khmer Royal Ballet in 1962 and was a prima ballerina between 1965 and 1970. After surviving the Khmer Rouge period she gathered children at the Thai border and taught them dance, then taught in France for about two decades and helped establish a Khmer royal ballet company in California in 1991. She has since worked as an artistic director with Cambodian Living Arts and has documented the kbach movement vocabulary of the classical repertoire.
